First Lady History
Behind every great ministry stands a community of faithful servants. The First Ladies of Babers Temple Church of God In Christ have played an essential role in the life and growth of our congregation. Through their leadership, compassion, and dedication, they have strengthened our church family and touched the lives of countless individuals in our community.
Mother Katie Mae (Crowder) Babers
Mother Katie Mae Babers served faithfully as First Lady of Babers Temple Church of God In Christ, standing alongside her husband, Elder Otis Lee Babers Sr., from the time they took over the church’s leadership in or about 1956. Through decades of ministry she supported the work of the congregation through steadfast faith, service, and devotion. Her presence, leadership, and commitment helped strengthen the spiritual foundation of Babers Temple and supported its growth as a spiritual home for families in Hollis, Oklahoma and the surrounding communities. She served in this role until her passing in 2005, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and dedication.
Missionary Tamara Ward
Missionary Tamara Ward was born and raised in Sacramento, California. After graduating high school she began college and, during her sophomore year, joined the United States Air Force, where she served for seven years. While stationed at Plattsburgh AFB in New York she met and married Elder Keven Ward. Together they have been married over 35 years and have five children: Jozalyn, Mylan, Jeremiah, Ebriannah, and Covina. Tamara worked within military chapels in many capacities during and after her military career, accepted her calling in the ministry in 1999, and has served in roles including Usher Board President, Prison Ministry, Nursing Home outreach, Sunshine Band President, Sunday School Teacher, and more. In December 2021 she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. She has had the privilege of living in Japan and Turkey and meeting saints around the world. Missionary Ward returned to Oklahoma with her family in July 2023 and is diligently serving as the Elect Lady of Babers Temple Church Of God In Christ, with a particular heart for working with youth and building God’s kingdom.
