About Babers Temple Church Of God In Christ
Babers Temple Church Of God In Christ (BTCOGIC) was established in 1928, known originally as “The Holiness Church.” It first opened its doors in a small shack in the flats of Hollis, Oklahoma. Among the church's earliest leaders were Elder Washington and Elder Copenhagen, both serving under the leadership of Bishop A.J. Thompson.
In or about 1956, Elder Otis Lee Babers Sr. and First Lady Katie Mae (Crowder) Babers took over the leadership and renamed the congregation Babers Temple: Church of God in Christ. Through God's grace the church grew and moved to its current location at 1102 E. Jones St., Hollis, Oklahoma, where the congregation labored together to pay off the building and the land. Elder Babers faithfully led this church for over six decades until he was emeritized in 2019 and passed in 2020. His legacy of faith, steadfast holiness teaching, and devoted service remains the foundation upon which Babers Temple stands today.
Today, under the formal leadership of Elder Keven Ward — installed as Pastor in January 2024 by Bishop Brandon Porter, COGIC General Board Member — Babers Temple Church of God In Christ continues to build on that rich legacy. We invite you to become a part of our story and experience the warmth, fellowship, and transformative power of God's Word within our church family.
